St. Louis County ARES® will be holding
an exercise on Saturday, February 18, 2006 called "Aftershock". The premise
is that
an earthquake has struck the area and that a lot of homes and some of the
infrastructure have been damaged. Participants will provide communications
for shelters, EOCs, and so forth. Since this exercise will be held during the
winter, we're not actually asking anyone to go out into the field.
Participants can work the exercise from the comfort of their homes. The
shelters and such will only be simulated. This will be a radio skills
development exercise rather than a field exercise.
A series of "events" will take place, but the participants will not know
know in advance what they are. Participants will be given information to
relay at specific times, and responses to give. The script has been
partially written and believe me, it won't be dull.
The event will start at 1 PM and will run until either 2 PM or 3 PM,
depending on the number of participants.
All St. Louis County ARES® members
are urged to participate in this exercise. You will need to sign up
in advance, by contacting Gary Hoffman, KB0H, at
kb0h@arrl.net.
You must register by February 10, 2006 if you wish to participate
in this exercise.
Check this page frequently as more details will be added.
